Michael Jordan is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most prolific basketball players of all time. He began playing as a freshman at the University of North Carolina, where he led the team to an NCAA championship in 1982. Jordan then declared for the NBA draft, where he was selected third overall by the Chicago Bulls in 1984. During his 15 years with the Bulls, Jordan won six championships, five MVP awards and various other accolades. His iconic dunk from the free throw line during the 1988 Slam Dunk Contest propelled him into superstardom and served as his signature move for many years to come.

Jordan also notably left basketball in 1993 to pursue a career in professional baseball after his father’s death. He returned to basketball in 1995 with renewed vigor and helped lead the Bulls to three more championships before retiring again prior to the 1999-2000 season. Two years later, Jordan attempted an NBA comeback with Washington Wizards but retired permanently after two seasons with them. After retirement, Jordan continued to remain a part of the NBA by becoming part owner and managing member of operations for Charlotte Bobcats (now Hornets). Even today, his legacy remains strong; he is considered by many experts to be one of the best players in history and has inspired generations of athletes worldwide.
